Many people in the UK will know of the story of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe but after watching the recent documentary and being drawn to tears by it, I make no apology to highlight her plight again and the cost to innocent people when politics takes over humanity.

I took a keen interest in this story and tried to do my little bit in signing the petition and highlighting it through Twitter and to the government. Like so many other people who also tried, it fell on deaf ears for far too long.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is an Iranian-British dual citizen married to Richard Ratcliffe. Nazanin and Richard who live in Britain married in 2009 and their daughter Gabriella was born in 2014. Nazanin had been a teacher, and translator and then moved to the World Health Organisation as a communications officer.

In 2016 Nazanin travelled to Iran with Gabriella to visit her family for the Iranian New Year. As they were about to board a plane back to the UK, she was arrested and detained by members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. Gabriella’s passport was confiscated and she was put into the care of her maternal grandparents in Iran. Gabriella was later allowed to return to the UK to be with her father.
