This is absolutely fascinating. I agree it is hard, as you to say, to criticise a Springsteen song but, as a fellow Boss fan and due to his huge catalogue of songs, you have to be honest and admit there are always going to be some that one doesn’t like. Also agree that a bad Springsteen song is still better than a lot of songs.

I am in agreement with quite a few of these, “Adam Raised a Cain”, “Crush on You”, “Spare Parts”, “57 Channels”. I thought I was the only Springsteen fan who doesn’t like “Glory Days” and my disdain for it. My wife doesn’t like it either so that makes three of us! “Waitin on a Sunny day” can be tiresome when you hear it so often at concerts, but I can cope with it. I do like the “Live in Barcelona version”. However, as much it is great that he likes to get a kid to try and sing a bit of it, it can be quite squirmy!

I do quite like “One Minute You’re Here” and “Down in the Hole “. Although for the latter, I prefer his natural voice singing it rather than the beginning of it which sounds weird. Yes, I agree, “High Hopes” is my least favourite album. I have grown to really like “New York City Serenade” but really the live version he has done, especially with the string section.

I think it is great that we all have different choices and love debating about Springsteen. I will confess now, that I don’t like “Rosalita” which I know is huge fan favourite, so will probably get lynched for that! Was at the London Calling concert. Great set list I thought even “Rosalita” was ok!!

Excellent article.
