The Problem I had with the TV Drama Succession
Is it just too close to the society we live in today?
Let me start by stating that Succession is an excellent drama. It is brilliantly acted and has received wide critical acclaim.
I was a bit late to the party watching this award-winning series but completed the whole drama recently. For anyone who has not seen Succession, I will explain briefly trying not to provide any spoilers. The drama is based around the Roy family headed by the powerful and ruthless Logan Roy (Brian Cox) who owns a giant media corporation. Logan has four children (three male and one female). Due to his age, they are all expecting him to retire and hand over the reins to one of them to take over the mantle as the lead.
Being over simplistic, therein lies the main crux of the drama as the siblings spend most of their time squabbling and trying to outwit each other to prove that they should be Logan’s successor. There is much more to it but let’s leave it at that.
Whilst watching the drama, I couldn’t help thinking back to an old series about another powerful and rich family. Does anyone remember Dallas?
