Writing Prompt

A part of Mark’s Library but no Fiction!

When Paul Combs tagged me for this writing prompt in his great article here, I already had a resemblance to an article about books and how Medium has inspired me to read more fiction, so I have decided to combine the two.

As a child I adored book shops and used to spend hours in them before then spending more hours in record stores. I loved reading all genres especially fiction. If someone was to come in and peruse my current bookcase I would first make sure they hadn't just wandered in uninvited. After that, they would find nearly all non-fiction. I have biographies of actors, comedians, sports stars, and musicians but very little fiction. When I decide on a list of books to read especially in the summer I always head for true stories, especially biographies, and have read very little fiction over the last few years. However, this is changing thanks to many of the great articles I have read on Medium and some of the wonderful writers I have met.

I think it is a special gift to be able to write fiction and for me it is on another level. I would love to have the imagination and patience to write fiction but so far that has failed me. I once had a go at a small children’s story about a cat’s life. To be honest it was awful. I think it is one of my first pieces on Medium and I don’t have the heart to go back and read it. I even…
