As we head into the last days of September, Autumn has woken up gathered its hat and coat, and is at the front door yearning to step out. For some, it can be a beautiful season with all the colourful leaves and the distant sun producing some wonderful days with less heat.

For me, it signals my initial blues as I gear up and prepare for colder days and the inevitable long UK winter. I would quite happily hibernate from November to March.

I appreciate that many in foreign residences have suffered in unbearable heat this year but let’s face it in the UK we have had a miserable summer. For the UK, September seems to be the most consistent month when it comes to settled weather. Is it because some great people have their birthdays in the month? F. Scott Fitzgerald, Freddie Mercury, Buddy Holly, Leonard Cohen, and Idris Elba were all born in September. More importantly, the one and only Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born this month…
