It’s Christmas Celebrations Time but Spare a Thought for the Lonely
Five Fantastic Sobering Songs about the Lonely, Homelessness, and Poverty
I thought twice about writing this due to sounding like a sanctimonious old git or maybe fully holier-than-thou. I am nothing of the sort but with all the madness that goes on during the festive period: the parties, the shopping, the decorating, etc, one can sometimes forget Christmas is not a great time for everyone.
Whether it is an old person who has lost a treasured partner or anyone who is grieving at this time, it can be sad. It is also very tough for people not that well off in particular someone living on the streets when Christmas can be an even worse time watching everyone else celebrating.
My wife and I stopped buying each other presents when my Mum passed away in 2014 leaving both of us with very few family members left. It is not a humbug thing; it is just a decision we jointly decided. We would rather save our money for other things especially for me as Bruce Springsteen seems to want to carry on touring until he drops!
We still celebrate though and this year will be first time we will be going out for a Christmas meal since pre Covid.
