Great article. Went to two of his gigs for the albums. The Band were very good but not a patch on the E Street Band who, as you say, the albums needed desperately. Also agree that Lucky Town was the stronger of the two with songs Better Days, My Beautiful Reward, Living Proof and our wedding song If I Should Fall Behind being my picks. Ironically Human Touch has one of my favourite Springsteen songs; I Wish I Were Blind.
