Two Successful and Two Tragically Disastrous

A couple of recent events reminded me of an article I have meant to write for two years. For some reason, I delayed it, which may have been due to certain incidents, such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the conflict heating up again in the Middle East, that I considered inappropriate.

However, let us face the gloomy fact that wars will rumble on as long as humans are on this earth. So, I have decided to write it now before my memory fades completely.

The events that triggered my aging memory on the article were the sad loss of ex-President Jimmy Carter at the age of 100 just before the end of 2024 and Joe Biden’s attempt to secure a ceasefire deal in the ongoing Gaza conflict before he left office. The two are very loosely linked to my article, so may become a bit clearer soon, but it has now sparked my interest in conducting some research into how many outgoing presidents have tried to achieve some massive achievement to leave as a legacy.

Anyway, enough of my deliberations below are four famous and daring rescue attempts outside the world wars. Two were deemed very successful and two were a complete catastrophe.
