An Enemy and A Fake Friend?

The thought of just one more drink buzzed around his head nagging at him so much that he couldn’t cast it aside. At this very moment, he said inwardly to himself “I wish I were blind drunk!” That would ease his troubled mind and numb the pain for the night. Because the night was always the worst time for him to find some solace.

He had already had a couple of drinks, but craved one more to find some peace. At least for a little while, he would be able to sleep. He knew it was wrong and he would suffer the next day and his arch-enemy anxiety would come back with a vengeance. That was the price you pay for using your alcohol friends to resolve troubles.

He had suffered from this crushing disablement for years and whenever his anxiety struck the first thing he did was reach out to his friends Jacobs Creek, Jack Daniels, Stella, or whoever was around to ease his pain.

“Let’s be friends” he could sense them flashing their fancy labels at him inviting him into their world. “We’re here for you!” Yet they were no real friends to him. They seemed to take pity on him but underneath they scoffed at him. Would they be there in the morning to help him when his anxiety was worse than ever? Of course, they would be if he…
